JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will have overall operational responsibility for The Starting Block in keeping with its mission.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

- Ensure ongoing local program excellence, evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration

- Actively engage board members, partner organizations, and funders

- Represent The Starting Block at Food Events and related meetings - be the ‘face’ of The Starting Block

Fundraising and Communications

- Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities including grant writing to support program operations

- Deepen all aspects of communications – from social media though website and google search, Facebook, and Instagram to external relations including inspectors, local agencies, the City of Hart, and others

Planning and New Business

- Work with the board on strategic planning

- Build partnerships and establish relationships with funders and community leaders, City of Hart

Office and Bookkeeping

- Scheduling clients, overseeing sign-up

- Invoicing and Billing, QuickBooks, Payroll, Bank Deposits, Charitable License Renewal, 990 Income Tax Form, MDARD License and Food Facility Renewals, and Quarterly, Corporate, and Annual Reporting

- Ensuring updated and functional office equipment and internet Communication

- Communicate with all tenants in the building

- Communicate on-going with clients, share information

- Respond to e-mails and to mail at the PO Box and mailbox

- Update Starting Block brochure, website, flyers

- Greet visitors, answer phone and follow up on calls with referrals and resources

- Set up board meetings, create agendas, reports and meeting minutes for meetings

Qualifications

- Thorough commitment to The Starting Block’s mission and quality programs

- Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership, coaching, and problem solving skills

- Organizational management, budget management skills

- Detail oriented, familiar with QuickBooks

- Marketing, PR, and fundraising experience

- Strong verbal and written communication skills including grant writing

- Creative in attracting new clients, promoting community awareness through social events, welcoming to new ideas

- Ability to work independently, as part of a team and effectively with diverse groups of people

- Flexible, action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, self-directed, positive, and innovative

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

Kitchen Management

- Train new clients in food safety and kitchen use, help them get started in labeling, packaging, batching up recipes, type of equipment to use, and starting a food business

- Replenish kitchen supplies

- Repair, purchase and sell kitchen equipment as necessary

Maintenance

- Keep building clean and in good repair. Empty trash and check bathrooms regularly and replenish supplies

- Mow, sweep, keep up outdoor property, shovel

- Fix and purchase kitchen and office equipment as necessary. Check freezers, refrigerators, and kitchen regularly. Move kitchen and office equipment as needed, clean offices for turn-over.

- Pest control

Communication

- Communicate with all tenants in the building

- Communicate on-going with clients, share information

- Respond to e-mails and to mail at the PO Box and mailbox

- Help further relationships with community and City of Hart, attend meetings and be the ‘face’ of The Starting Block

Qualifications

- Thorough commitment to The Starting Block’s mission and quality programs

- Proven leadership, coaching, problem solving and relationship experience

- Food science and food safety background

- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Ability to maintain and problem solve commercial kitchen and building equipment

- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people

- Flexible, innovative and open to new ideas
